Dwellers of Bhotkhola Face Food Crisis

Sankhuwasabha, Bhotkhola basi khadya abhab jheldai. July 28, The dwellers of Bhotkhola are facing food crunch after the rice sent by Nepal Food Corporation did not reach the Hatiya depot. Though the NFC said that it already sent all the rice to the Hatiya depot on June 29, the locals claimed that it went missing on its way before reaching the depot. The locals of Hatiya, Chepuwa and Kimathanka are angry after they could not get rice even after a month. The areas are facing food crisis after the road of Najiu Chautara of Hatiya VDC-4 was swept away by landslide. The transportation between Kimathanka of China, Chepuwa, Hatiya and the district headquarter Khandbari has been disrupted due to the landslide. The food corporation said that the food could not reach due to the disruption of transportation around these areas. However, local Ladar Bhote complained that the landslide occurred 15 days after the rice was delivered by the corporation. He further demanded the concerned stakeholders for immediate distribution of rice. The Nepal Food Corporation claimed that it has already distributed rice for the fiscal year 2013/14. However the consumers are complaining that they have not received any food yet. Meanwhile local, Wangdami Bhote demanded for an immediate investigation into the rice that went missing along the way. The locals are compelled to eat only maize, Uwa and potatoes due to the food crisis. The production of maize, uwa and potatoes lasts for just three months in these areas.
