The employees from Nepal Electricity Authority-Biratnagar Distribution Center were misbehaved and physically assaulted by the chairperson of Hotel Eastern Star, Mr. Tulsi Pokhrel when they went to disconnect the electricity connection. According to chairperson of NEA-Biratnagar, the hotel had to pay 314 thousand dues to NEA and 25% more as a fine for delay in payment.
The 57-year-old electrician Taranath Khatiwada went to the hotel with assistant Sunil Harijan and driver Jit Bahadur Sunuwar to plug out the electricity connection. Police have stated of receiving complain from the employees against the hotel owner for misbehaving with the employees and beating electrician Khatiwada. The employees were also locked for half an hour in the hotel room until the combined team of NEA and police took them out. Police have called both the parties and further discussion is ongoing at the district police office.
The accused Pokhrel is also main advisor to Past Social Development Minister of Province 1, Ms Ushakala Rai. Meanwhile, the National Bureaucrats Union and Forum, both have published a joint statement condemning the incident and demanding punishment for the culprit.
