Human rights and peace society staged a demonstration in Kathmandu along with Rupandehi, Chitwan, Dang, Terhathum, Kapilbastu, Accham and Banke on the occasion of international non-violence day on September 2. The slogan for the demonstration was ' Ahinsa: Pabitra Ewam Gaurabmaya Marga'. On June 15th, 2009 the UN's general assembly decided to celebrate October 2nd as international non-violence day.
As per the resolution passed by the General Assembly, all the UN systems were called upon to observe the Day of Non-Violence in an appropriate manner by spreading the message of non-violence including education and public awareness. October 2 is also the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Since the United Nations decided to observe the Day of Non-Violence in 2007, the Human Rights and Peace Society has been celebrating the Day of Non-Violence on October 2 every year with various programs.
