Law professionals stage a protest wearing black bandages demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra by standing on one side of the Supreme Court premises carrying banners. The Nepal Bar Association led the demonstration, which included Krishna Prasad Bhandari, Daman Nath Dhungana, and others. The protest will last for three days from today, according to the association. Stating that Chief Justice Jabra has not been able to stop the distortion, inconsistency, corruption and maintain the dignity of the judiciary, the Nepal Bar Association has announced a protest program demanding his resignation.
Security has been beefed up at the Supreme Court premises in protest. The deployment of security personnel inside and outside the Supreme Court has been increased. Police vehicles are also on standby. Supreme Court staff are allowed to enter the main gate only after showing their identity cards. Except others employees are not allowed to enter. As per the pre-arranged program, the Nepal Bar has decided to hold a sit-in and protest at the Supreme Court premises on November 2. The Nepal Bar has stated that it will announce additional protest programs if Chief Justice does not resign by November 2. A meeting of the bar held on October 29 had decided to give Jabra five days to resign from the post of Chief Justice.
