Butwal, Shikchak mathi youn utpidan ko arop. BUTWAL, AUG 08 - A hostel warden of a private school in Devdaha, Rupandehi, has been accused of sexually harassing and attempting to rape girls. Reports had recently surfaced that the hostel warden and science teacher , Shrawan Kumar Baniya, had sexually harassed a girl living at the hostel of Buddha Public School. The victim had reported the case to police after Baniya allegedly tried to force himself onto her on Sunday. Apparently, Baniya had called the girl to his room on the pretext of checking her homework, asked her personal questions about whether she had a boyfriend and forced her into talking sexually explicit contents. Baniya then attempted to rape after holding her by the waist, but the girl had somehow managed to free herself from his clutches before running outside for help. The students and teacher s who heard her screams then called her parents. After the incident came to light, the victims along with other girls at the hostel complained about Baniya sexually harassing them on several other occasions. They told the parents and teacher s that Baniya had previously attempted to touch them inappropriately, and even watch them undress at times. In response to the incident, the school board and teacher s have piled pressure on parents to internally solve the issue, and have offered monetary compensation and free education. The unsatisfied parents then called the police on the school board. Police arrested Baniya on Sunday night, while the victim’s father lodged a formal complaint against him for attempted rape on Monday. According to police, Baniya denied the allegations and clarified that he called the girls to his room only to keep them focused on their education. Meanwhile, Inspector Sama Thapa said that they had started further investigations into the matter after obtaining five-day custody extension of Baniya from the District Court, Rupandehi.
