14 Years Sentence to Accused Human Trafficker

Kaski/ August 13 The District Court of Kaski has slapped 14 years of imprisonment and compensation of Rs 100,000 to Shyam Mahat, 47, of Panauti Municipality-4 in Kavre District on August 13 on charge of trafficking a 30-year-old woman. A single bench of District Court Judge Ram Prasad Oli gave his verdict on the case. The victim was rescued from Bhairahawa by the police. She was being taken to India in the pretext of foreign employment in the US by the accused after marrying her at a Shiva Temple in Hamja on April 16, 2013. The victim had lodged a complaint at District Police Office on April 23, 2013. On May 21, 2013, the accused was arrested by the police and was presented to the court. With a court order on June 16, 2013, he was remanded in custody.
