Palpa, pakhala prabhavit VDC ma swastha shivir sthapit. PALPA, AUG 14 - The District Public Health Office (DPHO) has setup an emergency medical camp since Tuesday night for the treatment of diarrhoea that has gripped the region since Saturday. The camp has been setup at Bhanyarsthan Primary School located in upper Asare in the affected Siddheswor VDC. The DPHO had deployed a team of health personnel led by a medical officer after coming to know about the epidemic. According to senior Assistant Health Worker (AHW) Min Bahadur Shrestha, 93 patients have received treatment till Wednesday. “Due to quick response no human casualties were reported, any further delay would have been catastrophic,” said former VDC chairperson Krishna Dev Panta. Gita Darnal, chief at Siddheshwor Health Post, had relayed the news to the Area Health Post in Chahara and DPHO on Tuesday after acknowledging that the disease had turned into an epidemic. Darnal said that the disease that had started with two people in the village had escalated to an epidemic within four days. The disease had surfaced in ward four and five of the VDC since Saturday. While serious patients are being treated at medical facilities all over the area, patients who had normalised are being treated at home with antibiotics and Jeewan Jal (re-hydrating solution), said local Lok Bahadur Budha. Meanwhile stating that the disease was yet to be controlled, local Sumitra BK said that more than 93 people from both wards, including children and elderly, were still to be treated. At the meantime, the number of patients coming in to the camp remains same. Locals seeking treatment have travelled up to the district headquarters for treatment. Locals said that the symptoms included fever, shivering, and muscle pain at the initial phase followed by vomiting and loose motion. Although it is believed that the disease had spread from the water source as the whole village is dependent on it, it is yet to be confirmed. A team from drinking water and sanitation division office have reached the affected area and taken water samples for tests. Meanwhile, locals have been requested to drink water only after boiling it.
