SUNSARI: Nepali Congress Itahari town president Hem Karna Paudel, who was absconding after he was charged with abducting and detaining a person, was arrested today after he presented himself at the District Court. He was released on bail. A single bench of District Judge Khadananda Tiwari freed him on a bail amount of Rs 715, 000. Paudel was held soon after his release from District Court Inaruwa on the charge of a public offence crime by a police team led by DSP Binod Sharma of Area Police Office, Itahari. “Now, he will be detained and a case will be filed against him,” said DSP Sharma. Paudel was accused of kidnapping Durga Adhikari of Itahari-8 and detaining him at Panchdhare of Itahari-4 on October 23, 2012. When police came to collect evidence, he had fled. According to the victim, Paudel and Nepal Student’s Union central member Surya Rai took Rs 2.5 lakh ransom from the victim’s brother Tilak. The victim was tortured before his release. The kidnappers had freed him only after signing that he would to pay another Rs 2.5 lakh to his abductors after release. Police had refused to file the case several times. Then, he launched a hunger strike, but the security force intervened. Then he had knocked on the door of the appellate court seeking justice.
