Clash at ANNISU's protest in Butwal

A clash broke out between students and police in front of the Lumbini Chief Minister's Office in Butwal. The clash took place at a demonstration organized by the student organization ANNISU affiliated to CPN-UML on Monday. ANNISU  staged a protest in front of the Chief Minister's Office demanding withdrawal of the petroleum price hike and announcement of local elections.

Some students have been injured in the clash. ANNISU Central Secretariat members Bal Krishna Pandey, Shesh Kant Pokhrel, Butwal Municipal Chairman Roshan Ghimire, Krishna Poudel, Gun Bahadur Shrestha and others were injured in the clash with police.

Roshan Ghimire, who was critically injured in the clash, has been admitted to hospital for treatment. The students had planned to throw black balloons in front of the Chief Minister's Office in protest. Pokharel said that the police intervened and charged the baton. Chief of the Area Police Office, Butwal, Thaga Bahadur KC, however, claimed that there was no clash in the protest.
