Student thrashed black and blue for not doing homework

In yet another showcase of the ugly facet of corporal punishment, a teacher merciless thrashed a student black and blue in Rajbiraj of Saptari District on Thursday. Raghunath Das, a Nepali teacher in Janaki Secondary School thrashed Manoj Kumar Yadav (14) with a bamboo stick for making noise in the classroom and not submitting homework. Ninth grader Yadav sustained deep injuries on his head, resulting in excessive bleeding. He went to Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital, Rajbiraj by himself after the teacher neglected it as a minor wound. He received four stitches on his head. According to Yadav, teachers of the school have been frequently thrashing students for not doing their homework. School Principal Chiranjibilal Dev termed the incident a 'minor mishap'. However, Panchadev Yadav, Chairman of Private and Boarding Schools' Organisation, Nepal (PABSON), Saptari deemed the incident as condemnable. He has directed the school not to repeat similar inhumane activities in future.
