Women leaders and cadres of the Nepali Congress have staged a demonstration in Biratnagar, before the Provincial Working Committee Office of the party on April 24, alleging that the party neglected women in the local level elections.
The women leaders gathered from different places accused the party of ignoring the requirement of 33 percent inclusion provided by the constitution. Shanta Poudel, Member of Province 1 parliament and President of Nepal Women's Association Morang, said that the party had deprived the capable and long-serving women of their rights in the name of party alliance. She warned that the movement would intensify if the party did not make a decision. Demanding candidacy for the post of mayor and deputy mayor at the municipal level, she said that there was no need for an alliance in the metropolis.
