The victims of Cooperative Financial Development Institution Limited, Nepalgunj staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Chief Election Officer on April 26, citing that many persons who were involved in embezzling their money were becoming candidates for the upcoming local election from different parties. Rs. 430 million has been embezzled from various cooperatives. A large number of savers are constantly on the move to get their money back. A case has been filed against 41 members of the cooperative. According to Ashutosh Shukla, co-coordinator of the Cooperative Victims Struggle Committee, 34 people, including Chairman Hardevbaks Chaudhary, have been released on bail.
The protesters chanted different slogans demanding those involved in embezzling Cooperatives fund be disqualified from becoming candidates for election.
