The district court of Okhaldhunga has ordered to release Durga Bahadur BK, 54, of Katunje VDC-3 on a bail amount of Rs 20,000 on August 21. He was arrested on charge of beating Hira Lal Dhamala, 64, of same VDC, alleging him of practicing witchcraft. Initially, the court had decided to release him on date on July 30 in absence of district court judge. The district court judge Subash Babu Puri ordered to release him on bail after reconsidering the case. The accused had beaten the victim alleging him of witch on July 16 and the case was registered by police based on the complaint lodged by the victim on July 21. He was arrested by police on July 22 following the victim's complaint. According to the Muluki Ain, the accused could be imprisoned from three months to three years and fined a compensation amount of Rs 5,000 to 25,000 or both if found guilty of accusing, libeling or ostracizing someone on charge of being witch.
