Nepali Congress cadres have been accused of assaulting Deepak Raj Joshi, a mayoral candidate of the Byas municipality in Tanahun.
Joshi is the son of former Congress leader Govinda Raj Joshi, and he is running for mayor with the support of the CPN-UML.
Joshi has sustained a head injury in the attack at a voting centre in Byas municipality-8 of the district. He was there to observe the voting situation as a candidate.
“If I had been there for two more minutes, I could have been dead,” Joshi says, “Even now, there are goons outside. I am inside my room.”
On the other hand, Nepali Congress cadres have accused Joshi of tearing ballot papers first.
“At first, he tore the ballot papers. Enraged, the Congress cadres misbehaved with him,” DSP Yubaraj Khadka of the District Police Office says, “He is under our control now. The injury is quite minor.”
Meanwhile, Joshi is being airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment.
