Bagmati, Sindhupalchok, Panchpokhari Thangpal, Ward 5
Situaiton in Gunsa of Panchpokhari rural municipality-5 turned tense due to a clash between cadres of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML on May 19. The clash ensued after Nepali Congress cadres retaliated in response to an alleged attack on a cadre by CPN-UML at Gunsa while he was heading to the office of Panchpokhari rural municipality. Congress cadres later vandalized the house of the chairperson of ward 5 Kale Gole who was elected from CPN-UML. Additional police was deployed at the site to prevent situation from escalating, according to DSP Dakshya Kumar Basnet. The root cause of the clash is said to be a dispute between Nepali Congress and CPN-UML the previous day on May 18 over vote counting. Nepali Congress and other parties had demanded recounting of votes after 3 ballot papers were found missing while 4 ballot papers were found half torn. The CDO and election officers had resumed vote counting by mediating the dispute over lost ballot papers. CPN-UML's candidate for chairperson of ward 5 had won by a margin of 15 votes.
