Police on May 23 arrested nine persons on the charge of beating to death Chhatta Shahi, 61 in Kharpunath rural municipality-5 in Humla. The arrested have been identified as Pithindra Shahi,24, Babar Shahi,22, Mohan Jung Shahi,26, Kali Bahadur Shahi,24, Jayendra Shahi,28, Jayendra Shahi,22, Jayaraj Shahi,27, Abisar Shahi,24, and Bal Bahadur Shahi,30. 

According to DSP Krishna Raj Ojha of the District Police Office, Humla, Rajendra Shahi, son of the Chatta Shahi, lodged a complaint against the arrested youths accusing them of attacking Chhatta outside the vote counting site on May 14. According to DSP Ojha, the search for the accused was delayed as they were absconding. He further added that Shahi, who was injured in the assault near vote counting site of Kharpunath on May 14, died while undergoing treatment at Nepalgunj Medical College, Banke. The accused assaulted Shahi along with Nabin Adi and Mansir Sing Adi by pelting stones on May 14. Due to the attack, they all suffered injuries to their head. CPN-UML Humla district committee issued a press release condemning the attack and demanded action against those involved in the incident.
