The case of abuse of a woman on charge of being witch has been settled in compromised at the District Police Office on August 29.
The perpetrators of abuse of Ram Kumari Marik, 25, of Malekpur VDC-4 were allowed to go free after making them pay Rs 5,001 to the victim.
Rudan Marik, 52, the victim’s husband said that they agreed to accept the money and signed a document saying they would not complain to anyone. He added they resigned and went for compromise after getting no help from either police or administration or Integrated Problem Management Centre even after 12 days of running pillar to post in search of justice.
Ram Kumari’s sisters-in-law, Arhuliya Devi Marik, 45, her sons Dilip, 30, and Binod, 22, daughter Murti Devi, 20, Murti Devi’s father-in-law Bhupat Marik, 50, of Topa in Bamangama Katti VDC had beaten her around 5 pm on August 18. She was accused of casting spell on Murti Devi causing her childlessness.
Seriously injured, Ram Kumari was treated at Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital. She has two children. Ram Kumari had filed a complaint at District Police Office on August 19.
Commenting on the case, ASI Hari Maya Shrestha, the in-charge of Women Cell said that comprise was carried out on the agreement of both sides.
