A single bench of judge Basantaraj Poudel ruled against Rehan Ahammad Hasmi and Rijawan Ahammad Hasmi. Both Hasmi brothers burnt Shiwa Hasmi, 19, to death by sprinkling petrol over her body over a love affair on December 6, 2012. The court also sentenced Shiwa’s mother Hasina to two years in prison for helping Hasmi brothers murder Shiwa. Shiwa was burnt alive outside her house. She succumbed to her injuries days after the incident while being treated in Kathmandu. The court, however, gave a clean chit to Shiwa’s lover Babu Khan of India against whom Shiwa’s family had lodged a complaint, accusing him of pouring petrol on Shiwa and set her on fire for refusing his proposal to elope with him. In his statement to the police, Khan had claimed that Shiwa’s family was responsible for her death.
