Victims of loan shark from Nawalparasi stages demonstration in Kathmandu

A struggle committee of victims of loan sharking from Nawalparasi staged a demonstration in Kathmandu demanding to take legal action against the loan sharks who were allegedly grabbing money and land as interest of loan from helpless victims. The demonstrators alleged that the brothers of Nawalparasi Jagadish Baniya and Sunil Baniya had collected Rs.15 lakhs cash interest on a principle amount of Rs.2 lakhs. The demonstrators chanted slogans against the loan sharks demanding justice. 

According to Rajkumar, a victim of a loan shark, he took Rs. 1.5 laks as a  loan to go to foreign but even though he paid 12 lakhs which is his earning of 6 years, he has not been able to clear his loan. And he further added that he paid loan by selling his land as well but he was not able to pay off his debt.

Likewise, another victim alleged that he took Rs. 1 lakh as a loan from Sunil Baniya to send off his son abroad but Baniya made the legal paper stating that he had to pay Rs. 2 lakhs for Rs. 1 lakh loan. He further added that he had provided Rs. 5 lakhs 5 thousand and they are asking 8 lakhs more as an interest and were asking to sell land to pay off dept.
