Cadres of of NCP (Nepal Communist Party) led by Netra BIkram Chand blocked the Mahendra Highway at the Nawalparasi East district headquarter Kawasoti on August 23 to enforce the nationwide general strike called by the party. 

At 10:30 in the morning, the NCP cadres burned tires  at the West Mahendra Highway, 800 meters from the District Police Office. Normal life in Nawalparasi East has been affected due to the strike since morning.  Due to the non-operation of public transport, the markets are not so crowded. The police have increased patrolling in the main market of Mahendra Highway.
