CPN (Unified Socialist) Bhaktapur District Chairperson Shyam Sundar Basnet's house which is located behind Gattaghar Civil Hospital in Madhyapurthimi Municipality-3, has been vandalized and an attempt was made to kidnap Basnet by a group of armed men. Raju Pandey, DSP of Metropolitan Police Circle, Bhaktapur, said that around 3 o'clock in the morning, an armed group of four-five people entered the house of Samajwadi Party president Basnet and broke the door.
According DSP Pandey, the group which included three unmasked men wearing black clothes entered Basnet's house with the intention of kidnapping him and returned after not finding him. They took away a mobile set, a pair of shoes and a plate from the kitchen and it appeared that they had other motives than actually stealing. Police are further investigating as to whether the incident had political or criminal motives. Meanwhile, Basnet has demanded security of his residence and its vicinity.
