Depositors picketed the Namaste Savings and Co-operative Society Limited's office in Bardiya on November 3, after they were denied withdrawal of their saved money by the co-operative. Police suspected that the money of dozens of depositors who had saved money in the co-operative in the hope of getting high interest might have been embezzled. Some customers have deposited up to one and 1.5 crore rupees.
People who work as daily wage workers joined the demonstration against the cooperatives after not being paid the lakhs of rupees they have saved in the Co-operative. Information Officer of the District Police Office and Deputy Superintendent of Police Hikmat Singh Bohora said that a complaint has been filed against the co-operative manager Sanjeev Kumar Mahato, along with the director, demanding action and refund.
