Forest official booked for bribery

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Thursday filed a corruption case at the Special Court against an official of the Area Forest Office, Damak, Jhapa. Issuing a press statement, the anti-corruption constitutional body said Assistant Forest Officer Jeevan Pathak of Area Forest Office, Damak, Jhapa district was booked for receiving graft of Rs. 28,000. The Commission had caught the accused red-handed while collecting the bribe from s local furniture entrepreneur Govinda Shrestha, assuring the latter of settling his pending case of illegal timber trade at the Forest Office. Commission has charged the accused as per Sec 3(1) of Anti-Corruption Act, 2002 and demanded a maximum punishment on him as per Section 3(1B) of the Act.
