Rape victim banished from house

KANCHANPUR: A rape victim from Dhakka, Kanchanpur who was denied justice after the deceit of her family, has been forced to bear another brunt of injustice; banishment from her house. A married woman of 17, the victim was a raped by two men in Daiji on 18 July on the way to her kin. Police had filed a rape case against the alleged with the help of locals. The two men were later released after the victim changed her statement, following her family's instruction under the dubious circumstances. Her family is suspected to have taken some Rs 250,000 from the alleged men's family to dismiss the case. The victim, while walking to her home carrying the newly changed statement paper, suffered scorn by the villagers. Add to that, she had to put up with the insult from her family, leading to banishment. The victim, a married woman, thereafter has been taking shelter in the Women and Children Service Centre in Mahendranagar, with the help of human rights activists.
