Men Accused Of Gang-rape Remanded

Makwanpur, Samuhik Balatkar ko arop ma giraftar. Jeevan Thing, 19, an accused in a gang-rape case has been remanded in jail by the District Court on October 9. Thing, hailing from Padampokhari in Hetaunda Municipality-13 had been in police custody for investigation, was sent to jail by district judge Basudev Poudel. He was arrested on October 1 after being on the run for 15 run after being accused of raping a 15-year-old girl. He had been in the custody since the court was closed due to Dashain festival. Along with Thing, seven others were accused of raping the girl at Hotel Narayani and Gold Coin in the night of June 22, 2013. Of the accused, Kanchharam Syangtan, Hom Bahadur Syangtan, Shreehari Aryal, Suyas Dhakal, Laxman Khatri and Gopi Sarraf had been sentenced to 10 years in prison and asked to pay Rs 200,000 each to the victim as compensation. Another accused, Barun Chaulagain, of Harnamadi remains at large.
