The studies of nearly 30 students have been affected after the padlock carried out the inmates of Nakhkhu Prison for the last two days. The inmates padlocked the CRC block of the jail at 3 pm on October 13 claiming discrimination by the internal and external prison administrations. The prison administration says that because of the move, studies of one hundred students including 30 preparing for their SLC examinations were affected. Jailor Chakrapani Gautam informed that the block had 262 inmates adding the agitating inmates had padlocked at 10 places. "It is difficult to open the padlocks as they are locked from inside and they are not ready to give in", jailer Gautam said. The inmates have demanded for the transfer of jailer and leaders of internal administration including chaukidar, naike and bhainaike and investigation into the corruption as the inmates have to bribe the administration to get the facilities like visits and holidays. They also have complained of substandard food and physical abuse by chaukidar, naike and bhainaike. The chaukidar, naike and bhainaike are chosen from among the inmates but the issue has led to several clashes in the past at the Nakhkhu jail.
