Armed Police Force (APF) personnel deployed at Jaleshwor Customs has successfully rescued an Indian girl who was recently abducted, on Monday.
Sonu Kumari Singh, 10, who hails from Bihar, India, was rescued from Lachka Chowk, Jaleshwor-13. A group of four unidentified youths had kidnapped Sonu, a fifth grader at Rajakiya Kanya Secondary School, on September 8 while she was on her way back home.
On the basis of a tip-off, an eight member team led by APF Inspector Suraj Pandey conducted a search operation. The kidnappers had fled leaving the girl behind while the team began a thorough search after cordoning off the area. Upon questioning the girl, a visibly shaken and fragile Singh who had been with the kidnappers for more than one and a half months did not know where she was held hostage. Speaking about the ordeals she faced, the minor said that she had spent her days fearing for her life as they used to blindfold her during the day and keep her on a leash by holding a pistol on her.
The victim’s father Nawal Kishor and mother Anjali had reached the APF’s border outpost after receiving a call from the APF. Pandey said that they handed over the girl to Bihar Police in presence of her parents. Expressing gratitude to the APF, Nawal Kishor said that his daughter had become a victim of abduction by her own relatives over a land dispute.
