Appellate Court Issues Mandamus to Investigate into 'Crossfire'

Mahottari/ November 7 Appellate court of Janakpur on November 4 has issued a mandamus ordering for the investigation of killing of Sirajul Nuri Mansuri of Badiya Banchauri-2. The mandamus has been issued on a complaint filed by the family of victim at the court claiming that killing was extra-judicial. For the first time, the appellate court has taken forward the case of killing in the name of cross-fire by registering it. A bench of Chief jude Purusottam Bhandari and Judge Megh Nath Bhattarai issued the mandamus on November 4 ordering investigation into the matter. Mohamed Israfil Mansuri, brother of deceased had lodged a complaint saying that Mansuri's murder on March 24 was extra-judicial. He had lodged a complaint against the then DSP SP Ram Prasad Shrestha, DPO, District Administration Office and CDO Ram Prasad Thapaliya demanding investigation into the case and action as per murder charge. The family of the deceased has been accusing police administration of killing Mansur as per the direction of SP. Police claimed that Serajul Mansuri was killed on the night of February 5 in a clash with police near a sugarcane field in Sonama VDC-5. Police said that Mansuri was wanted in a murder case after abduction, five abduction cases and one looting. Police had recovered two home-made pistols, bullets, one mobile phone set and sim cards from the incident site.
