Woman Mistreated on Witchcraft Charge, Files Complain

A woman has filed a complaint against her husband and family at the District Police Office on November 9 accusing them expelling her from home on charge of practicing witchcraft. According to Aasha Devi Nepali, 30, of Sundaradevi VDC-7, her husband Sanu Babu Nepali and his brother Santosh Nepali, 28, beat her up and force her out of house. She said that Shyam Babu Nepali, 45, brother-in-law of her husband mistreated her leveling her of being witch when she asked her husband to make her certificate of citizenship. She accused that his family also took away her 30,000 Indian rupees from her. Her husband and family had marked her with a hot spatula on charge of being witch last year. The district court had fined them Rs 25,000 convicting them of the charge. Inspector Prakash Raj Sharma of the District Police said that action would be initiated against them as a complaint had been received.
