Accused Rapists Absconding

Siraha, samuhik balatkaarghatna ka aropit farar. Siraha/ November 10 Incidents of gang rape has increased in the district. Three girls have gang raped while one was attempted for gang rape within a month. Police are still unable to nab the culprits. A girl from India was gang raped on October 7 by Rajiv Mukhiya, 22, of Nawarajpur VDC-1 and Jitendra Mukhiya, 19. Similarly, a 16-year-old girl was gang raped by Manton Thakur, 23, of Majhauliya VDC-8, Dilip Kumar Shah, 22, Rakesh Singh, 27, and Ansarul Rain, 20, of the same place on the night of October 8. A 15-year-old girl was attempted for gang rape by Nageshwor Paswan, 20, of Bhawanipur Pradha VDC-2, Bileti Paswan, 25, of same place and Birendra Paswan, 30 on November 8. All those accused are at large and police has not been successful in arresting them yet. Similarly on October 12, district court of Siraha has sentenced 11 years imprisonment and Rs 50,000 penalty to Nejamuddhin, 18, of Muksar VDC-6, Manoj Thakur, 19, and Daud Ali, 19, on charge of raping a 15-year-old girl on December 21, 2013. INSEC district coordinator Dev Raj Pokhrel said that it is necessary for civil society and police to jointly spread awareness program in the district against rape and violence against women. Women rights activist Dev Kumari Mahara said that such incident can be minimized by bringing the culprits to book. SP Ram Kripal Yadav of Siraha said that the violence against women is increasing due to the lack of awareness, illiteracy, misuse of remittance received from foreign country. He further stressed on awareness programs to be conducted for the public in these issues. He also said that it is hard to nab the culprits because of the open border between Nepal and India. It is found that the incidents only reach to police after efforts to settle the case in the community fail.
