BARA, NOV 11 - Officials are clueless about the man who raped and murdered an eight-year-old girl in Kalaiya, Bara district headquarters, on Saturday night. “There is no headway in investigation. The guilty has not been identified even though we have held some for interrogation,” said Superintendent of Police Ishwar Babu Karki. The perpetrator took the girl into a bush behind Kalaiya Hospital and assaulted her on Saturday evening. The child was found in an unconscious state later. Doctors at Narayani Sub-regional Hospital in Birgunj declared her dead upon arrival. Police suspect the criminal raped the girl and strangled her fearing reprisal. Teams from the Central Investigation Bureau and Regional Police Office have been probing the case. The district police invited the CIB to study the case as it could not trace the rapist. A CIB officer said they had not got any lead in the case as the local people who witnessed the incident remained tight-lipped and the police failed to protect the cite. “The blood stains were washed off in the lack of a security ring and the items from the site were taken away,” he said. The victim’s family and relatives said the police had failed to act even as they were informed immediately after the child went missing.
