They were rescued from Darjeeling, Siliguri and Sikkim of India with the help of police. They were sold to brothels in India. According to Maiti Nepal, search for the 17 missing women is underway. Women from Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Nuwakot, Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung and other districts are trafficked to India. Maiti Nepal recorded the highest number of complaints from Dolakha and Sindhupalchok districts. Similarly, the organisation rescued 97 women from various border check points during the period and handed them over to their parents.
