34 Incidents of Rape in Mid-West in Eight months: NHRC

Regional office of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Nepalgunj has said that 34 women were raped in eight months in mid-western region. The data was made public by NHRC at a program organized to mark the International Human Rights Day on December 10. There were a total of 34 cases of rape in the mid-western region during the period from April 14 to December 6, of which 18 occurred in Banke and 16 was in other districts, said Murari Kharel, regional director of NHRC. Similarly, 11 cases of murder murder, 7 incidents of torture and mistreatment, 2 of bomb explosion, 11 incidents of abduction, 19 of beating and clashes, 9 incidents of intimidation and extortion, 8 incidents of sexual violence and mistreatment, 28 incidents of violence against women, 16 incidents of child rights violation and 8 incidents on human trafficking have occurred, according to Kharel. He said that the incidents were documented based on media monitoring and NHRC monitoring.
