Mahottari, Bechbhikahan ko udesya le sema kataedai gareko 28 yuwati ko udhar. District Police Office has rescued 28 women in four months who were being trafficked to India. However, perpetrators in most of the cases remain free as only one case of human trafficking has been registered in the DPO. Last year, there were two such cases registered. SP Lokendra Shrestha of DPO, Mahottari says that failure to arrest the traffickers was mainly due to the victims' inability to reveal the traffickers' true identity and the traffickers' tactics of travelling separately and crossing the border before the victims. He further said that the unwillingness of the victims and their relatives to help police further the case has also hampered the action against the women traffickers. He added that currently police had been mobilized to search for three accused traffickers. Police arrested Pradip Jha of Nainhi VDC-2 at Bhittamod in Jaleshwar Municipality-12 as he was taking a 15-year-old girl across India on November 26. In another case, Abhinandan Thakur, 22, of Madhubani, Bihar and living in Janakpur, Suni Kumar Thakur, 21, and Santosh Kumar Mahato, 23, were arrested at the same place for their attempt to take two girls of Dhungrabas, Maisthan VDC-7 in July. All of them are remanded in Jaleshwar Prison. Police research show the women who aspire to earn quick money and wish for a luxurious life, those suffering from violence at homes and those without parents are at high risk of being tricked into trafficking. The trend shows that beginning point in trafficking is getting a call from unidentified person, building up the relation and promising good jobs or fake relation of love or marriage. To take anyone from his /her home, place of residence or from a person by any means such as enticement, inducement, misinformation, forgery, tricks, coercion, abduction, hostage, allurement, influence, threat, abuse of power and by means of inducement, fear, threat or co-ercion to the guardian or custodian and keep him/her into ones custody or take to any place within Nepal or abroad or handover him/her to somebody else for the purpose of prostitution and exploitation are the acts of trafficking and transportation.
