Bardiya, Samuhik balatkar bhaeki pidit balika ajahi bichipta. A former Kamlari (indentured bonded labourer) girl from Dhodhari VDC-4, who was gang-raped in an Indian village bordering Nepal more than two weeks ago, is still traumatised by the incident, her family members said. The 17-year-old girl, who is currently under the care of Women Service Centre (WSC) in the district headquarters, said that she is yet to return home as she fears that the rapists from India may attack her any time again. She also regrets having failed to resume her studies. “I could not appear in my mid-term examination that concluded recently as I did not see any conducive environment for me to return home and resume my studies,” said the girl, who is a ninth grader in a school in Dhodhari-4, which shares borders with Bicchiya, the Indian village where she was raped. Nevertheless, she said that she wants to continue her studies. Although the girl’s health is gradually improving, she is still suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), said an official with the WSC. The girl, who was attending the Sita-Ram Bibaha festival in Bicchiya in India, was reportedly abducted by four Indian men and raped in a nearby forest. The five Indian nationals including Shyam Dev Chaudhary, Kishun Chaudhary, Shyam Pal and Rajan Chaudhary, who were arrested in connection with the rape, have been remanded in judicial custody, police said. Earlier, a source said that the families of the suspects had offered IRs 1 million to the girl’s family to drop the charge. While demanding stern action against the rapists, the victim’s family said that the family of the suspects have been threatening to kill them if they do not withdraw the rape case.
