Case Filed for Holding Inmates More than Capacity

December 20, A case has been filed at the Appellate Court on December 19 for holding inmates more than capacity in the Nepalgunj prison. Advocates Bishwajit Tiwari, Sunil Shrestha and Bal Bahadur Chand jointly filed the case of ''public concern" saying that the prison did not heed to the repeated request to hold inmates to its capacity. Currently Nepalgunj prison holds 555 inmates though it has a capacity to hold 250 inmates. Chief of the prison Shyam Lamichhane said that the number of inmates in the prison increased following the campaign to implement the court decision. Some inmates are compelled to spend nights in tents due to lack of space. Some inmates are facing health problems after spending nights in tents due to cold weather.
