Brick Kilns in Saptari to be Child Labor Free

Saptari, Balsram mukta banauna itta bewasai sahamat. Brick kiln operators in the district have agreed to make the kilns child labor free. According to the District Child Welfare Committee, hundreds of children have been employed in brick kilns though the Child Labor Act 2000 and its regulation restricts children below 14 years to be employed as child labors and does not allow children below 16 years to be employed in hazardous professions. Chairperson of Saptari Entrepreneurs Association Bhimraj Yadav informed that 42 brick kiln operators expressed their written commitment to make the kilns child labor free at the meeting of Brick Kiln Entrepreneurs in Rajbiraj on December 20. A 5-member monitoring committee has also been formed to monitor the use of children is the kilns. The committee coordinated by Child Rights Officer Poonam Chaudhary has District Child Welfare Committee member Baidhyanath Jha, Brick Kiln entrepreneur Shashi Kumar Yadav, Federation of Nepali Journalists Saptari Chapter and District Police Office as its member. The monitoring committee will start its work from December 21 and collect data on child labor, issue warnings and recommend for action to those neglecting its warnings. The government has announced to eliminate child labor from the country by the year 2020.
