DEC 30 - Normal life has been badly affected in Mahottari district due to the cold wave conditions and dense fog. At least seven people lost their lives in a week after two more people succumbed to cold on Monday. The southern part of the district did not see the sun on Tuesday as well.
Mercury has plunged to seven degree centigrade resulting in thick fog and bitter cold. Marketplaces were a deserted a look as people prefer to stay inside their house.
Forty-year-old Lal Mohammad Rain, and 73-year-old Gonaur Mahato, of Bijalpura-1 in the district, died on Monday. Rain shivered to death while attending the nature’s call in the field, locals said.
According to District Livestock Development Office, more than 200 goats and their kids have succumbed to the extreme cold throughout the district. Similarly, District Agriculture Development Office has also informed that the agricultural disease called blight has caught the potatoes and tomatoes planted in more than 3,000 hectares of land.
The Parikauli-based Nepal Army’s Sher Battalion has distributed firewood at public places. The army made arrangements for making bonfire at more than two dozen places.
