Police rescued two Indian tourists from the clutch of their abductors from a hotel in Lakeside, and arrested six people for their involvement in the abduction for ransom. Three of the abductors are Indian nationals who had stalked the group of six tourists from the Indo-Nepal border since January 1. The victims are identified as Gurdeep Singh and Amritpal Singh of Nautanwa. Police said the Singh brothers were heading back to Pokhara on Sunday, January 4 after visiting Manokamana Temple when they were taken hostage from Chauthe of Pokhara by the group. Police identified the prime suspects as Indian nationals Rajendra Prasad Kasuadhan and Rajesh Kumar Kasaudhan of Nautanawa, and Mahajan Gupta of Siddharthanagar. They apparently had demanded a ransom of IRs 5 million for their safe release. Likewise, Rohit Sunar of Sikles, Kaski; Suresh Sen of Chinnebas, Syangja, and Kamal Pun of Muna, Myagdi were also involved in the crime. The six were presented before the Kaski District Court today. They have been remanded in custody for investigation. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the Hotel Hong Kong in Lakeside where the hostages were kept. Four of the suspects were arrested form the hotel, while two others—Sunar and Sen-- were rounded up from Kaseri when they were trying to run away on a motorcycle. The abductors allowed one of the brothers to call up their family back home in India to demand a ransom. After receiving the information of abduction, their father came to the Nepali side in Bhairahawa and alerted the police about the case. The Kaski police swung into action after being alerted by the Rupandehi police about the abduction. Police said the same group had held four other Indian tourists -- Mumtaz Khan, Rajeev Singh, Anurag Mishra and Bhikkhu Mishra-- captive also. They, however, were set free after extorting a total of Rs 30,000 from them. Police confiscated Rs 22,500 and the motorbike (GA 4 PA 1722) from the suspects' possession.
