Delhi mission steps in to free held up Nepalis

NEW DELHI, JAN 10 - Nepali Embassy has taken initiative for the release of 24 Nepalis who were arrested from Satlok Ashram of self styled Indian Guru Rampal. The detained Nepalis have been imprisoned in Hisar district. On November 19, Indian police raided the Satlok Ashram in Chandigarh Road and arrested 935 people, including Rampal, his personal security guards and assistants. Twenty-four Nepalis who were in the ashram at the time were also arrested. Rajendraman Shrestha, the counsellor at the Nepali embassy, said three cases have been filed against the detained Nepalis. “Investigation could go on another three more months over the cases of serious crimes like possession of arms, involvement in attempted murder and carrying out an explosion,” Shrestha said. “There is the possibility of releasing the ordinary devotees on bail following two months of investigation.” To secure the release of the detained Nepalis, Shrestha and Yadulal Kharel met the police chief of Hisar district, SK Gupta, recently. Shrestha said Gupta has assured to help release the Nepalis on bail.
