53-year-old Ratna Neupane of Sipkhana VDC-3 and a teacher Danfe Secondary School, Mumra and his son 29-year-old Hemraj Neupane also a teacher from relief quota, accused police of torturing them on January 17. They claimed that a police team of seven including Head Constable Dhirendra Shahi beat them up with boots and batons in the District Police Office claiming that they threatened DSP Laxman Gurung calling him on police hotline 100. DSP Gurung said that he was threatened repeatedly on the hotline by a man identifying himself as Hemraj Neupane. He accepted that as the callers' address and the younger teacher's address was the same, He was brought to the District Police Office for investigation and that his subordinates had beaten him without his knowledge but denied torturing the father and the son. The students and their guardians are angry for inflicting physical assault on the teachers, who were on the uniform, on a false charge. Hemraj said that the police stopped beating them once the policemen learned that the person threatening DSP Gurung was somebody else. He said Shahi and other policemen kept beating them for two hours trying to extract their confession and threatening them with expulsion from the job. Though police had only called Hemraj at the DPO, his father Ratna also accompanied him. Hemraj had bruises all over his body while his father sustained an ear injury. They are being treated at a local pharmacy. Elder victim Ratna said that DSP Gurung apologized to them after learning that the caller was not his son. The District Police Office said that DSP Gurung was threatened by phone with the number 9868322791 and that they were yet to identify the caller.
