Whereabouts of 16 missing girls still unknown

Sixteen girls who had left home for the employment in India are still out of contact. They were learnt to be lured for job and trafficked later. The Maiti Nepal Office at Pashupatinagar in the district has said it received the application of the disappearance of 33 girls from the district in 2014. Of which 17 were searched and rescued and handed to the respective families. Coordinator at the Office, Hom Dhakal, informed that remaining the 16 girls are still out of contact. The Office had rescued 17 girls from various homes and hotels of Darjeeling, Sikkim and Silgudhi of India. Similarly, during 2014, as many as 368 girls, on the way to India with the false promise of getting employments, were returned home after counseling. The number of girls receiving counseling from the Maiti Nepal in the district stands at 687. The agents from hotels and brothels of India lure many women from Jirmale, Shreeantu, Pashpatinagar, Samalbung, Gorkhe, Jogmai, Maijahuwa and Mabu VDCs of the district and traffic them. The girls and women prevented from trafficking at border areas are also provided skill-oriented trainings as of computer and tailoring.
