Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu

The opposition alliance including UCPN (Maoist) have announced to hold street protest against the decision of ruling parties—Nepali Congress and CPN-UML—to move ahead with the majority voting process to draft the constitution. The opposition alliance announced the decision following a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday. The opposition parties resorted to protest after Constituent Assembly ( CA ) Chairman Subash Nembang, on Sunday, himself announced the formation of questionnaire committee to resolve the disputed issues of constitution writing meet despite strong objection from the opposition parties. Earlier, yesterday, the opposition parties organised a symbolic assembly against CA Chairman Nembang and burnt his effigy at various other places. Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Chairman Upendra Yadav, informing about the meeting, alleged the ruling parties of sidelining the opposition. He said that the ruling parties have breached the entire past consensus and agreements by initiating majority voting process to draft the constitution. The opposition alliance will make public its programmes of protest by today evening. The meeting of the 19-party opposition alliance decided to seek approval of CPN-Maoist among other parties outside the CA regarding their programmes of protest. Riled by the proposal to form the questionnaire committee by CA Chairman Subash Chandra Nembang, opposition parties have decided not to sit for talks with the ruling parties and CA Chair Nembang until the decision to form the committee was annulled. ए
