Malnutrition has claimed the lives of seven children in Kapilvastu – the district enlisted as having the least nutritious children. It is reported that the children detected with deficit nutrition lost their lives in course of treatment. Resource Person of Nutrition Programme at Health Office, Bishnu Poudel informed that the children died due to lack of treatment and knowledge and awareness gap. "Patients never come back to contact again once they get the first treatment which resulted in their demise", he added. The deceased are among 9,035 undernourished children identified in the district.
