The district court of Saptari has sentenced 30-year-old Birendra Mandal Khang of Nakati Rayapur-1 and 29-year-old Suryanarayan Mandal of Maleth VDC-8 to 10 years in prison after finding them guilty of abducting 16-year-old Sushant Kumar Singh of Rajbiraj municipality. A bench of justice Kamal Prashad Pokhrel has decided to sentence the accused to 10 years in prison and fine them rupees one lakh each. The court has also issued an order to compensate the victim a sum of rupees fifty thousand. It was also mentioned in the court decision that the others accused in the case including 31-year-old Kameshwar Yadav of Nakati Rayapur VDC-1, 32-year-old Umesh Ram called diljale of Mohanpur VDC-3 and 32-year-old Kasindra Yadav of Mainakaderi VDC-5 are at large. The perpetrators had abducted Sushant Kumar on July 02 2010 from his home at Rajbiraj municipality-5 during mid-night. They had then taken him hostage for 5 days. On July 06 2010 the victim successfully escaped from the clutches of the abductors and the victim's father lodged a complaint against the abductors in the district police station. The accused who have been charged with possessing illegal arms and ammunition, kidnapping, and hostage-taking have been placed in Rajbiraj jail.
