Madhes, Bara, Kalaiya

BARA, FEB 13 - A group of protesters torched a vehicle of Kantipur Publications in Bara on Friday morning. Stating that their news wasn’t published on the front page of the newspaper, the protesters torched the publication vehicle, Lu 1 Cha 4336, carrying today’s newspaper at Kalaiya. The protesters, who were at Kalaiya bazaar stopped the publication vehicle and looked for their news. They started vandalising the vehicle after they didn’t see their news published in the front page. A clash took place between the protesters and the police who were at the scene to provide security to the vehicle. After eluding from the police for a while, they pushed the vehicle for some distance and torched it. Earlier, on Thursday, the protestors torched copies of Kantipur daily along with Nagarik, Annapurna Post and Naya Patrika, accusing the newspapers of not printing their news. Normal life in Kalaiya has been affected for the past five days due to demonstrations organised by the Bara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) against the government’s move to shift Land Revenue, Survey and Land Reform offices to Simara. Due to the banda, vehicles plying the Birgunj-Kalaiya and other local routes in the district remained off the road, and people have not been able to purchase daily essentials for the past two days.
