The Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) arrested Rudra Bahadur Thapa (32), currently deployed at NA's Naya Shreenath Battalion from a hotel room in Devdah-2 of Rupandehi district yesterday. Police said he murdered one Rohit Kumar Ojha (32), a NA Corporal currently deployed at Lagankhel-based Artillery Directorate, in Shivapuri forest area of the Capital on February 27. Police investigation revealed that Thapa killed Ojha after the latter was found in a relation with his wife for years. Thapa and Ojha were introduced to each other around five years ago when Ojha visited Siraha district for an examination. Thapa was posted in the very district and was living with his wife Aastha. Ojha also came to know Thapa's wife and exchanged contact details then, according to police. Ojha also gifted the woman an Ncell SIM card and asked her to use that number only for contact with him, police added. Later, Thapa went abroad leaving the wife at a rented room in Nepaltar of the Capital. In absence of her husband, Aastha enjoyed the affair with Ojha. When Thapa came back to Capital, he came to know about the relationship and interrogated the wife over the issue, according to police. In a bid to end the affair, Thapa convinced both Ojha and the woman to take each other as brother and sister. Consequently, on February 21, at the Bhadrakali Temple premises, Ojha greeted on Aastha's feet and vowed to take her as a sister. But, Ojha could not stop visiting her, which motivated Thapa to take his life, according to police. Then, on February 27, Thapa called Ojha for a meeting in Budhanilakantha. He took him to Bishnudwar above Budhanilakantha in the Shivapuri jungle area and thrashed him with his waist belt. Thapa had called his wife from Ojha's number to tell that he killed her boyfriend. The accused stayed at a barrack in the jungle overnight and buried the body the next morning. Then, he left Kathmandu and reached Devdah via Pokhara and Butwal in a bid to escape the police investigation. The MPCD had launched the probe after the deceased's brother Bharat complained of the disappearance on February 23. Police had studied details of calls Ojha received and made on those days to find clues about the case.
