Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist has sought donations from community schools in the southern part of Kavre. The party has demanded Rs 500 from each of the government school teachers. CPN M cadres have sought donations from the teachers of the schools based in the Roshi area, according to a teacher at Janabijaya School. “Maoist activists have handed letters to teachers seeking donation amount of Rs 500,” a teacher said. The Maoists had written a letter to headteachers a fortnight ago asking them to provide the donation amount in the package. There are 15 primaries, 12 lower secondary, eight secondary, and higher secondary schools in the Roshi area. As many as 250 teachers are working in these schools. According to sources, a dispute had flared up between the Maoist cadres and teachers at Mechhepauwa VDC-based Kuseswor School after the former demanded donation from the teachers. Three teachers showing allegiance to the party, however, had made the contribution. CPN Maoist Kavre in-charge of Chudamani Gautam, however, said that donation was voluntary and the party was collecting funds from only those teachers who have allegiance to the party. “The party started collecting donations from the Roshi area because the Maoists had a strong grip on the area during the insurgency,” he added.
