Chand faction of the CPN-M has declared that it captured the land belonging to Haribhakta Khadka of Majuwa in Jungar VDC-9. Maoists claimed that the field was originally owned by Baljit Pun during the time of Panchayat regime and that his neighbour Bed Bahadur Mukhiya had sold that land to his distant relative Khadka. Khadka used to be the Pradhanpancha (head of the then village-level government office). A statement issued by the Maoists said that the land was captured because Khadka was owned the land by an act of fraud against his neighbour. The land was captured by the Maoists even during the armed insurgency. The Maoists’ kangaroo court had decided to hand that over to Pun but following the end of the conflict, Khadka had resumed use of the land. Maoists accused Khadka of bribing court officials recently to win the verdict over contested land in his favour. DSP Ramesh Thapa said that they were collecting information from the locals as the landowner does not live at Jugar anymore. Madhav Kumar Oli
