An elderly woman was thrashed to death in Barahi Birpur of Saptari on Thursday. Rajwati Devi Raya (70) from Barahi Birpur-4 of the district was killed after the woman snapped branches of a fallen tree on a border of two lands this morning. Locals Bidyananda Raya, Kamananda Raya, Shivananda Raya, and Chandan Kumar Raya among others attacked the woman with sharp weapons, the victim's son Bechan said. "We had cut down the tree into pieces as it had fallen onto our land during a recent storm," the son said, "But, they attacked us for the same." The woman had sustained serious injuries on her head and was rushed to Rajbiraj-based Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital. The Rajbiraj-based Hospital had referred the case to Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences. The woman breathed her last as soon as she had reached the Institute, Bechan added. Meanwhile, the deceased's daughters Hempushpa and Muna, and daughter-in-law Mina Devi were injured in the attack. They are undergoing treatment at the Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital. Police arrested two women for their alleged involvement in the attack. They have launched a manhunt to nab absconding suspects.
